SOLID STATE // Tully Arnot and Jess MacNeil included in group exhibition at Casula Powerhouse

The Artereal Gallery team is looking forward to visiting the upcoming exhibition Solid State at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, a group exhibition that includes artworks from Artereal Gallery regulars, Tully Arnot and Jess MacNeil. 

Opening the evening of Friday 17 July, Solid State investigates the physical structure of Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre as the architectural remains of a powerhouse. By curating artworks in tandem with the physical site, the selected artworks invite the public to reimagine the building in new and figurative ways. 

The selected artworks reference the Powerhouse by way of the skill and precision required to create and control force and movement, yet they also explore instances of instability, vacancy and the decay that arises when these properties do not exist.

LOUISE ZHANG // Yen STAEDTLER Female Art Awards and two group exhibitions

It's been a busy few months for Artereal Gallery artist Louise Zhang, who is showing work in our current exhibition, Paint15, alongside Adrian Hobbs, Adam Turnbull and Yioryios.

This week, the artist has been announced a finalist in the Yen STAEDTLER Female Art Awards 2015. Louise joins 19 other finalists, selected from over 600 entries. The winner will be announced on 11 June.

She will also be part of two group exhibitions at Casula Powerhouse and Penrith Regional Gallery, both which open to the public in late May and June.

Opening Friday 22 May 2015, Louise Zhang is included in the exhibition entitled Biggie Smalls at Casula Powerhouse. She will also have work included in a group exhibition entitled RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW, at Penrith Regional Gallery, which opens Saturday 6 June and continues until 23 August 2015. RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW seeks to introduce twenty Sydney artists who confront, challenge and agitate the traditions of painting to create bold, witty and unexpected results.

Most recently, Artereal Gallery commissioned videographer Fergus Wilson to produce a short film about Louise and her work, which you can view in the video above.

OWEN LEONG // a finalist in the PARAMOR PRIZE: ART + INNOVATION 2015

The multidisciplinary artist Owen Leong has been selected as a finalist in PARAMOR PRIZE: ART + INNOVATION 2015, a prize that champions new ways of seeing, experiencing and interpreting the world around us.

Leong is one of forty artists / art collectives shortlisted for the prize by a panel of guest judges; with his work forming part of a curated exhibition, on show at Casula Powerhouse Art Centre until 15 March 2015.

The Liverpool City Council vision for the future is to be the city of the great South West - a region of opportunity, prosperity and diversity. Innovation is a guiding principle of Liverpool City Council and the PARAMOR PRIZE: ART + INNOVATION provides an opportunity to develop new solutions and creative explorations of the new challenges and opportunities in the rapidly growing South West Sydney region.

OWEN LEONG exhibits installation in 'Mind The Gap' at Casula Powerhouse

Owen Leong, whose exhibition 'Bloodmilk' is currently on display at Artereal Gallery, has created a stunning installation for the group exhibition Mind the Gap at Casula Powerhouse, on show until 25 January 2015.

Entitled Self Portrait as Mountain, Owen Leong continues his exploration of the corporeal as a physical site of exchange through this installation, which visualises an internal landscape of the body through which the motion of a crystal is a journey towards healing.

As one of Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre's most ambitious projects, five contemporary artists have been invited to work with Casula’s local model train group. The artists and the model train club have collaborated to build artworks that model trains will travel through. Model train layouts usually aim to replicate in intricate detail natural landscape and architecture as realistically as possible.

The artists taking part have each coincidentally proposed fantastical worlds that are far removed from traditional model train scenery including an internal landscape of the body, a speculative future Utopia, a Baroque inspired dreamscape, a ghost train and a love train. This project merges two disparate communities and their creative worlds. One of the very few parameters for this project is that a working model train will travel through the work, allowing artists and railfans to share ideas and skills with spectacular and innovative results.
