ANNA CAREY / FIBRO COAST

Opening on 15 February 2013, The Gold Coast City Gallery will showcasing Fibro Coast, a group exhibition of artists whom have holidayed in the Gold Coast and created works which "creatively re-engage with the cultural, artistic, architectural and design legacy of the humble fibro beach house."

"In the era before motels and resorts, a holiday at the Gold and Sunshine coasts usually meant either pitching a tent and camping by the beach or staying in a simple cottage owned by family or friends. Simplicity, informality, individuality and increasingly a design that acknowledged a connection to outdoor living were the hallmarks of these humble places. At a time now when rapid change to the urban fabric of the Coasts is taking place, a few of these buildings remain, and hold with them, many layers of memory of this holiday history of relaxation and escape."

The exhibition features artists including: Vida Lahey, Ethel Carrick Fox, Anna Carey, Bruce Reynolds, Rebecca Ross and Elaine Campaner.

Fibro Coast runs until 23 March 2014.
