Liam Benson a finalist in the Substation Contemporary Art Prize...

Congratulations to Liam Benson, a finalist in the innaugural Substation Contemporary Art Prize - a national $5,000 non-acquisitive cash prize for contemporary visual art.

Formerly known as the Williamstown Festival Art Prize, The Substation Contemporary Art Prize is open to all mediums across the visual arts including, painting, drawing, photography, print, sculpture, installation, digital and video performance and aims to encourage innovation in contemporary art practice whilst recognising challenging contemporary art.

The award exhibition opens on 3 September 2011 in Melbourne. It will be held in the multi-storey industrial Substation building. Visitors will be handed a map on entry and invited to explore the space.
The winner of the $5,000 main prize will be decided by National Gallery of Victoria curator Alex Baker and Bendigo Art Gallery director Karen Quinlan and will be announced at the exhibition opening tonight.
