Cementa_13 is a biennial contemporary arts festival, hosted in the small industrial town of Kandos, NSW.
From February 1st - 4th 2013, over forty emerging and established artists, including Liam Benson, exhibited video, installation, sound, 2D and 3D artworks in various locations across the site.
The array of works addressed the identity, history, and current social, environmental and economic context of the town, and were displayed throughout the town's shop fronts, vacant lots, disused school, scout hall, local pub, the local museum, golf-course, people’s homes, and the surrounding bushlands.
With a population of only 1300, Kandos is an approximately 3 1/2 hour drive from Sydney. Over it's history, Kandos has supplied the cement to build the Harbour Bridge and much of the city, so the small town holds a significant place in the foundations of Sydney. There were walking and cycling tours held daily throughout the festival, to introduce the town's rich history to visiting audiences.
