CLAUDE JONES AND THE PECULIAR ANNES SELECTED FOR THE WOOLLAHRA SMALL SCULPTURE PRIZE

Seraph 2014, Peculiar Annes, 46x20x14cm

In May of this year Claude Jones, Janet Parker-Smith and Cleo Gardener formed an artist collaborative they named the Peculiar Annes.
The group's first sculpture Seraph (2014) has been selected for the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize.
Established in 2001, the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize is "the first national acquisitive prize for an original, freestanding scultpure of up to 80cm in any dimension" (Woollahra Council 2014).
Seraph (2014) concerns the treatment of animals held in zoos and testing laboratories. "It aims to engage the viewer in a dialogue that considers the human relationship with that of the non-human animal" (The Peculiar Annes artist statement, 2014).
The exhibition opens on Friday 17th of October and runs until November 2nd. It is held at the Woollahra Municipal Council: 536 New South Head Road, Double Bay, Sydney.
The Peculiar Anne's also have their installation Bodies, Ritual, Desire (2014) on show as a part of the Hidden scultpure exhibition at Rookwood Cemetary. The last day to see Hidden is tomorrow!
