GLEN HENDERSON / THE GREVILLEA VARIATIONS

Glen Henderson has been invited to screen her new media work The Grevillea Variations at Federation Square in Melbourne. A moving image artwork, The Grevillea Variations, provides an inventive colourful celebration of Australian Native Flora. The quirky, funny, and beautiful portraits of one of Australia's beloved native flowers is celebrated against her interpretative sculptural formations and surface patterning.

The Grevillea Variations present a spectacular visual journey. The inspiration is taken from the unique personalities of 18 different varieties of Grevillea, forming motifs on the botanical names - Kennedyana, Chrithmifolia, Paradoxa, Sericea, Thelemanniana, to name a few.

Many of the Grevillea blooms were photographed by Sandra Neale within Myall Park Botanic Garden, west of Brisbane in the Western Downs region. It has one of Australia’s oldest collections of arid and semi-arid native plants. Other photographs are from Brisbane and other areas within Eastern Australia.

The Sculptural forms, the abstractions and the surface patternings were inspired by Glen Henderson’s interest in nature’s geometry and created from various materials in response to the immense variety of Grevillea formations. Myall Park Botanic Garden, the inspiration of David Gordon Myall Park Botanic Garden the inspiration of David Gordon A.M. in the 1940’s, is a natural bush garden and a destination for botanists, gardeners, photographers, artists and bushwalkers.

The Grevillea Varations continues on The Big Screen at Federation Square in Melbourne until 13 September. In Sydney The Grevillea Varations can be seen on The Concourse Urban Screen in Chatswood until 31 October.

DTV / FEDERATION SQUARE

Starting this month, dLUX MediaArts have teamed up with Federation Square to present dTV, a monthly curated program of Australian video art screened at Melbourne's busy Federation Square.

Selected Australian artists will have their single channel video works shown on the big screen in Federation Square, taking the visitors on a journey into the world of contemporary video art. Stepping beyond recording performances, the featured artists will engage with screen based media on a variety of levels - exploring identity, historical positioning, cultural propriety, and social paradigms.

"What is Australian? What is an Australian identity? How does the physical landscape affect the social landscape and our sense of place as locals, visitors or international viewers with no direct experience of this country? What is a domestic landscape and how do Australian artists reflect their experiences and reflect their sensibilities through screen based mediums? These are just some of the themes you can expect to see during the dLux dTV screenings at Federation Square from December 2012." - dLUX MediaArts

During this month, four artists will be featured in Program 1: Past, Present, Future..., including Anna Carey, Dani Marti, Daniel Mudie Cunningham, and Sue Healey.
